Algae Cleaning + Rejuvenation

Those Black Streaks on Your Roof Are Not Just Cosmetic.

The dark staining you see is algae — and its presence means your roof's built-in defences have started to fail. We remove it safely, then rejuvenate and deep-seal the shingles underneath. One visit. Two problems addressed.

WHAT IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING

Your shingles were built to resist algae. When they stop, it means something.

Most asphalt shingles are manufactured with zinc or copper granules that are naturally algae-resistant. When shingles are new and oily, water beads up and sheds off immediately.

Over time, UV exposure and weather bake out the shingle's natural asphalt oils. As the shingle dries out and loses granules, it begins acting like a sponge — soaking in rainwater and morning dew instead of repelling it.

That trapped moisture creates the perfect breeding ground for Gloeocapsa magma — the bacteria causing dark streaks — which actively feeds on the exposed limestone filler inside your shingles.

What homeowners often miss:
  • The dried-out shingle retains moisture, creating a damp environment that accelerates rot and granule loss
  • The algae actively digests the calcium carbonate (limestone) binder inside the asphalt matrix
  • Pressure washing strips additional granules — making the underlying problem worse, not better
  • Treating the algae without restoring the shingle leaves the porous surface vulnerable to rapid regrowth
The algae on your roof is not just a cosmetic issue. It is a direct warning sign that your shingles have lost their moisture-shedding oils and are degrading from the outside in.
Typical timeline
1–5
Shingles new — zinc/copper granules resist algae, water sheds immediately
8–15
Granules and oils depleted — algae takes hold, dark streaking appears
15+
Flexibility lost, limestone digested — cracking, replacement looming

OUR APPROACH

Soft-wash first. Rejuvenation and deep-seal second. One visit.

Aluminators addresses both problems in a single visit using a two-step process — in the right order.

1
Soft-wash algae removal
We remove the algae using a low-pressure soft-wash system and a purpose-built cleaning solution that breaks down the biological growth at the source. No pressure washing. No granule stripping. No surface damage. Soft washing is the only safe method for cleaning algae from shingles.
2
Shingle rejuvenation and deep-cure seal
Our bio-rejuvenation formula penetrates deep into the dried asphalt matrix to replace lost oils and restore flexibility from the inside out. Once absorbed, the epoxidized formula reacts and cures — cross-linking to lock down loose granules, re-encapsulate the limestone filler, and create a durable, water-repellent seal. Rainwater sheds immediately, starving future algae spores of both moisture and nutrients.

Once inside, it restores three things generic products cannot reach:

COMPARISON

Rejuvenation vs. Replacement

Factor Pressure washing Aluminators soft-wash + rejuvenation
Algae removal Removes visually Breaks down at the source
Granule impact Strips remaining granules Zero granule loss — locks granules down
Surface damage High risk None
Moisture absorption Leaves shingle porous and wet Re-establishes hydrophobic water-shedding seal
Regrowth Rapid — root system untreated Prevented — biological matter eliminated, limestone re-sealed
Safe before rejuvenation No — compromises treatment Yes — prepares surface properly

THE RESULT

The Result

A clean roof
Algae, streaking, and biological growth removed safely. No dark staining. No residue. No damage to the shingles underneath.
Rejuvenated and sealed shingles
Flexibility restored. Limestone re-encapsulated. Granule retention locked in. The surface is now water-repellent and shielded against future growth.
6-year transferable warranty
Industry-leading warranty that transfers to the new owner if you sell. A documentable home improvement.

Is this the right service for your roof?

This combined service is designed for roofs showing algae growth alongside early to moderate signs of shingle aging — typically in that 8 to 15 year range.

If your roof has visible algae or dark streaking and shingles are in otherwise sound structural condition, this is likely the most cost-effective intervention available.

If your roof has severe structural damage, missing shingles, or active leaks, those issues should be addressed first. A free assessment will tell you clearly which situation you are in.

What a free assessment covers
  • Visual inspection of algae coverage and spread
  • Shingle condition — granule retention, flexibility, structural integrity
  • Honest recommendation on whether the combined service is appropriate
  • Clear quote with no obligation
